2020 bought some lovely new opportunities for me, one of which was my really fun collaboration with Jasmine from the Isles of Scilly. Jasmine started the company 'Bryher Jasmine', which was initially handmade fabric accessories and this year she moved into beautifully hand made children's clothes.
We had been following each other on Instagram for a while and Jasmine reached out to tell me about her fun idea of creating Scilly themed children's clothing. I'd always thought this would be a fab business, I know my mum would have adored to buy us Scilly clothes when we were little! Most of my print work is inspired by the Scillies so I was super excited to get involved. The idea was for me to produce the prints and fabric and then Jasmine would beautifully hand make the garments. Having children herself she has an amazing eye for this, the pieces are gorgeous! Everything is printed in the UK on lovely, super-soft, organic jersey.
Our first print 'A Day on Bryher' consisted of all the things we were both drawn to on the Scillies as children. Buckets and spades, shell collecting, spotting seals on boat trips, finding starfish in the rock pools and so on! I created a sketchbook of watercolour motifs and together we chose the final collection for the repeat. This was a wonderful success and it made me so happy to see my happy prints being worn. We moved on to our second print for winter and the Christmas market, which was the passenger boats of the Scillies. 'Scilly Boats' was created from my original Posca Pen drawings, on a bold blue background. We thought it would be really fun for the kids to be able to recognise the different shapes and colours and learn the names. I'm so glad the collection has been so popular and I can't wait for further prints we can do together.
I love designing for the children's market so if anyone has a project in mind please do reach out! Or perhaps some Scilly themed Children's curtains....?
